The wines of Cantina Monaco originate from hillside vineyards situated at approximately 500 metres above sea level, characterised by predominantly clay soils.
Surrounded by cherry trees and rosaspina bushes, our vineyards are located in the prestigious Umbrian area of Colli Martani, specifically on the gentle, green hills that embrace the ancient village of Doglio near Montecastello di Vibio in the lush province of Perugia. This region boasts a unique microclimate, with excellent diurnal temperature variations that allow the grapes to achieve perfect ripeness.
With its distinctive saddle shape and tightly spaced vines, the vineyard stretches from north to south, perfectly capturing the sun’s rays and delivering an unparalleled visual and tasting experience.
Our wines are crafted from a blend of native Umbrian grapes and French varieties that reach exceptional quality in this region, best expressing the soul of an ancient terroir.
Each wine, with its own unique characteristics, is the result of dedicated work aimed at the perfect union of oenological tradition and innovation.
Produced with meticulously selected grapes, hand-picked at their peak ripeness, the clusters are gently destemmed and crushed in the cellar. Alcoholic fermentation and skin maceration take place in stainless steel containers at controlled temperatures, followed by malolactic fermentation, also in stainless steel. At the end of this phase, the wines are blended.
Our red wines then mature in barrels for at least six months before being bottled and further refined in glass for an additional four months.
Sandrino, is an original and seductive red wine made from Sangiovese grapes with the addition of a small percentage of Syrah grapes.
In the glass, it has an intense ruby red colour and exudes strong sensations of red berries, blackberries and plums, interwoven with nuances of sweet spices, which have been accumulated during its passage in wood.
Betto, made from pure Merlot grapes from the southernmost parcels of the vineyard, has a dark ruby red colour with cardinal highlights.
The nose reveals intense and complex aromas of ripe red fruit including black cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant, floral notes of dried fruits interwoven with nuances of liquorice, cocoa and coffee.
Monacone is Cantina Monaco’s most prestigious label. It is a blend of Merlot and indigenous Umbrian grapes aged for 24 months in barriques.
The famous Bordeaux grape variety expresses itself happily in this area of Umbria, giving an important richness of fruit that creates this great red wine, structured and harmonious, destined for long ageing.
Viki is the result of a blend of indigenous Grechetto grapes and a small percentage of Viognier grapes that captivates with its aromatic richness and personality.
On the palate it is enveloping and deep, with great aromatic persistence, hints of yellow flowers, mango and yellow peach, which finds a perfect gustative equilibrium in the intact freshness and a clear mineral vein.
Capobianco is a blend of Chardonnay grapes and a small percentage of Grechetto grapes. It announces itself to the eye with a straw yellow colour, with golden reflections.
The nose enchants with an elegant and ample bouquet, where ripe exotic fruit, including aromas of pineapple and banana, alternates with the discreet scent of white flowers.
Rosaspina made from pure Syrah grapes is a fresh rosé characterised by a very pleasant soft pink colour with luminous reflections.
The nose is fine and elegant. Hints of fruit and delicate flowers are immediately perceptible: first of all peach, then redcurrant and jasmine. On the palate it is well balanced thanks to a ripe and satisfying fruit.
The commercial objective of the «Notevole» is to position its wines, under the “MONACO” brand, towards a high-end market segment. This is achieved through targeted direct promotion to selected figures in the luxury dining and hospitality sectors, both nationally and internationally, thereby excluding large-scale distribution. The brand is featured in numerous Michelin-starred restaurants and exclusive hotels accredited by prestigious networks such as The Leading Hotels of the World and American Express Fine Hotels&Resorts. Our wines were chosen and served during the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting at the Grand Hotel Quisisana in Capri in April 2024, and at the opening film celebrations of the 80th Venice International Film Festival. Additionally, they were recently selected by Confagricoltura to represent the excellence of the Umbria region at their stand during the enhancement of Perugia’s “Francesco d’Assisi” Airport.
